Somewhere between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, on the banks of Sabarmati, is The River Farm - an initiative by a super-enthusiastic Urban Farmer, where you can rent small Farmlets and grow your own vegetables and fruits, with the help of the resident farmers.
The community farming angle has been introduced where, they would put together a mixed basket of vegetables from all the Farmlets and sent to you weekly.
We learnt about this place a few weeks ago when a friend took up a farmlet on rent. The Khedut in me immediately took details and planned a visit here.
It is a little tricky getting here, but once you reach, you'd not want to move out.
Fresh vegetables growing around you - Tomatoes (cherry, sweet and sour), Brinjal, Broccoli, Carrots, Methi, Dill (Suva/Sava), Sugarcane, Sweet Potato (Brown and Purple), Paapdi, Zucchini, Coriander, Rocket Leaves, Spinach, Methi, Fennel, Lemongrass, Basil, Lettuce and what not! It's a wonderland!
Tanya, the one who runs and operates The River Farm, made sure we got a taste of the farm (quite literally!) because we got to eat straight-off-the-plant tomatoes and freshly plucked rocket leaves on the move.
It's great to have something like this within one's reach!
Looking forward to the next week's harvest (yes, we did get ourselves a small farmlet almost instantly! 😬) Tagging the page for more details.
