Now here’s the thing you need to know about our relationship with Khichdi - we are really finicky about each other. We like only a specific type and most of the times, we prefer a Khichdo over the Khichdi. So when we heard about this place, the instant reaction was - “This is interesting!” We chose a quiet afternoon to check this place out. It’s literally tucked on the first floor of this commercial complex opposite nini’s and if you weren’t being extra-careful, you might just miss it. Finding a parking wasn’t a challenge (thanks to the correctional step of AUDA to remove the pointless parking dividers from both the sides of the road). We get to the restaurant, a cosy little joint that seats not more than 6-8 tables at a time, and pick our spot.
The menu looked interesting. Never before had we seen so many options for Khichdi in a single menu. We place the order and the eternal wait began.
Now, their table setup is quite rustic and it’s the tiny details, where they’ve won my vote of confidence.
Among a couple of things we tried, it is the Panchkutta Khichdi which blew our minds. A little pickle, a splash of chhash, bit of papad no bhukko, kaanda par limbu-mithu ane tamtamaat marcha na nana-nana bites.. It was extremely satisfying!
The menu also had other kinds, a few that caught our attention (like the Akshardham inspired Khichdi and the Masala Aloo Khichdi) and a few that we are sure the cheese lovers might find solace in (personally, we are appalled by the idea of mixing cheese and Khichdi)
The food would be appreciated by those who love simple tastes and those who can’t find the time or patience to experiment making such delicacies themselves.
One tip to everyone going there : Eat with your hands.
One tip to the management : It’ll be great if you can install a portable hand-wash unit; you’ll save up on multiple wet-wipes and your guests might find it cleaner to wash the hands as against mere wiping.
