Elaneer Payasam <-- Remember this name!
I've always been amused at how stereotyped the Indian peninsular cuisines have been, and how the rest of the nation has adopted the mere breakfast from each of them, as mainstream meals.
And hence whenever we do come across anything more than the usual suspects on the menu, we dive right in; and so we did, at @immadrasrestaurant
Here's what we tried and loved :
Parippu Vadai
Medhu Vadai
Mixed Vegetable Uttapam
Chettinadu Dosa
Ghee Roast Dosa
Mysore Masala Dosa
Aapam - Kurma
Madras Lunch : This one's a proper thaali and make sure you go for the super-flaky Parotta, instead of the Chapati.
And then arrived the Star of our meal - Elaneer Payasam!
A dessert with such well-rounded flavours and so indulgent! It's a thick kheer made from milk+coconut water and chopped tender coconut! The steward attending our table, first, offered a small tasting portion for us to try. Little did we know that we'd request for a full portion and mop it clean within seconds! A Must-Try!
Special mention to the Masala of the Chettinadu Dosa and the absolute love with which their team feeds you, while explaining their specialities - a rarity in the mainstream lot of casual-dining restaurants!
The restaurant is owned by a Malayali and a Tamilian and hence the menu is a beautiful balance of food options from both these regions.
Definitely going back for that Payasam!
Cheers n Happy Eatin'!!
P.s : Yes, it does seem like we're on a quest for some great South Indian meals! #NoComplaints

We're loving how we're going retro with all the Butter-Cream Pastries and have parked ourselves outside the '90s! @uppercrust_restaurantandbakery is on the same nostalgia-bus as us, and has introduced the Old-fashioned Pastries. We saw their IG post and within minutes, placed an order and got them for us.
Such melt-in-the-mouth pastries! Damn! And the best part is, alongwith the usual eggless version, they also have a version where the sponge of the pastries has egg! Yes, I'm sure you know it by now, we LOVE eggs in our cakes!
The nostalgic fool in me, has a special place in my heart for the taste of everything I've eaten as a child!
The quest, for more, continues..
