Foodaholics in Ahmedabad Food-a-holics There are food-critics, food connoisseurs, restaurant owners, home bakers,  home-makers, students, working professionals, parents, husbands who can cook to  wives who can’t, lovers trying to find that perfect place for a date to a  clueless someone with a ready-to-eat packet in their hands.

A quaint café at Vastrapur, and now off SBR as well, has been my go-to place for getting the phone fixed (broken screens and what not). During most of these visits, the most I’ve had is a quick coffee or an occasional iced-tea while waiting for the phone to get fixed, until a few days ago when the owner (Mr Nair) in passing mentioned about how his daily meal is a good kheema-pav at the café. Now, here’s a confession –I’ve always visited this place in an emergency (“Arre please thoda jaldi screen change kar do,late ho raha hai”) and haven’t really gone here with the purpose of eating; so when he told me about the kheema, my first reaction was,”Arre aap nonveg bhi serve karte hain?! :O “ Fast-forward to a couple of days later, kheema-craving struck us and there we were, at the @caffix.thetechcafe SBR with a can-eat-a-whale appetite and the spoons on the table, almost about to go ‘Calendar, khaana do!’ And, while we waited for the meal, I couldn’t help but think how would I fit into the mezzanine seating area; and even if I do, how do I climb dow…. Boom – the Kheema arrived. Now I kid you not, we finished our meal within 10 minutes flat. 2 reasons -1. We were THAT hungry 2. It was THAT good! Well-trimmed and well-cooked, perfectly flavoured, not too dry with some good bread! For 495/- a portion that served 2, although we did end up calling for an extra pav, just to wipe things off the plate. If you are a kheema fan, this is worth a try for sure! At the risk of being cursed by everyone who sees this on their feed today, here is a gorgeous looking Rainbow Pastry at @dangeedums . For an extremely humble price of ₹80, #IPaidForIt, we put the whole hullabaloo to a rest. Verdict: It is a mixed-fruit-like pastry. Except for the orange flavour in the orange sponge, we couldn’t differentiate any other flavours. It isn’t entirely vanilla but neither is it multiple fruit flavours. It was a beautiful sponge, nonetheless. The buttercream frosting on the top could’ve been less generous. All in all, a delightful cake! We liked this more over the chocolate pastries there. 😃 Our other favourite is the Walnut Caramel Tart. It’s phenomenal. Don’t forget to get it warmed for 10seconds before having it. The tart, we mean. We have a confession. We hadn’t tried @koshos until last night. For us, they were these secret operative services for rescuing the starving souls at wee hours via delivery. We were driving past Nehrunagar, famished, when we stumbled upon their outlet. The place is very clean and optimally sized. We went post 11 o’clock so finding a parking spot wasn’t an issue although it might be a task during the day. The manager was very well spoken and had a smile like we all do at the start of our days! 😃 Helped us decide what we might like to try since it was our first tryst with them. Ordered a KOSHO’s SPECIAL 220 & KOSHO’S MAXIMUS SPECIAL 300 Both had diced sausages, seekh with scrambled eggs, mayonnaise, and cheese sauce. The only additional thing the latter had was a 7” smoked sausage. Yum! Somehow, for a change, we did not really mind those sauces however we do think it would taste as well even if they weren’t as generous with them. But amidst all of this, we’d like to make a special mention to their Bun! It was what actually stole the show! Sweetish and well baked. Really wholesome!! Which is why, absence of sauces would’ve really have been a problem. They also have other lesser priced hotdogs so don’t let these discourage you from giving it a shot. It is satiating!!! Their business banks on deliveries for the largest part. If you are feeling frisky, you can visit the outlet too. @eleven11restrocafe #IPaidForIt This Monday evening, we decided to check out the new Non-vegetarian Restaurant on Sindhu Bhavan Road! The interiors are very tastefully done. The table design is conversational friendly and the assorted seating makes for a good visual appeal. The restroom stole my heart with its Aztec-like floor and golden bathroom fittings; very arabic. Let’s get to the food. RATATOUILLE BRUSCHETTA The grilled slice of bread wasn’t gentle on the palate and held atop a very basic combination of vegetables, specific to ratatouille and baked cheese. CHICKEN PARMIGIANA Crumb fried chicken breast with a dollop of tomato sauce, chicken ham, along with some cheese served with a side of lovely fries and palatable salad. The sauce was underwhelming, the chicken was fried well! JUMBO 11x11 STYLE CHICKEN BURGER The concept was lovely. Two types of chicken – one crumb fried and other dunked in sauce with lettuce and a thin slice of bread used as a separator. BUT, the burger bun was a bit crumbly. It made impressions in it to the point of demolition soon after it was held in the hands. We deconstructed the burger and enjoyed the components! MEAT LOVER’S PIZZA The pizza had a huge scope of improvement. The base was pre-baked, tough on the palate, the sauce was negligible and under seasoned. The chicken ham, chicken salami, roasted chicken and minced meat put together made for a generous presence of meat on the pizza. Yet, requesting for tobasco turned out to be a wise decision. VANILLA BRULEE It wasn’t a brulee as much as it was a vanilla pudding. It was pasty in texture. The sugar didn’t crack, instead caved it. The overuse of blowtorch left the top layer of the pudding (what was their version of the custard) warm, and down under it was chilled. All of this, for 3 pax, costed ₹1,600. We truly enjoyed my time here in terms of the ambience. #HotChocolateQuest With the onset of our favourite month and the pink winters, we’re listing down our choices for a failsafe Hot Chocolate during the cozy evenings in Ahmedabad. 1) Italian Hot Chocolate at @ninis.kitchen : ₹165 With fudge-like consistency, this makes for a very indulgent beverage which you can eat/drink. 2) Premium Dark Hot Chocolate at @mcdonaldsmccafe : ₹145 With a medium rich consistency, this one aces the darkness of its chocolate. 3) Hot Chocolate at @themadhousecafe_ahmedabad : ₹100 A sincere, no fuss, chocolate ganache swirled in hot milk. Rich in texture but not dense. 4) Hot Chocolate at @thedarkroast : ₹160 The consistency is smooth, that of a full-fat milk but not creamy, whilst being medium dark it does have a froth. 5) Hot Chocolate at @dunkindonuts : ₹130 It is a simple medium-dark chocolate milk, smooth but non-creamy, ultra-mildly foamy. 6) Lindt Hot Chocolate at @mochaahmedabad : ₹225 Lindt Milk Chocolate Milk served with a dollop of whipped cream ensures that its smooth and rich, but very very foamy. Recently revisited all of them in order to confirm if they still taste the same as we last remembered them and boy! #HotChocolateQuest With the onset of our favourite month and the pink winters, we’re listing down our choices for a failsafe Hot Chocolate during the cozy evenings in Ahmedabad. 1) Italian Hot Chocolate at @ninis.kitchen : ₹165 With fudge-like consistency, this makes for a very indulgent beverage which you can eat/drink. 2) Premium Dark Hot Chocolate at @mcdonaldsmccafe : ₹145 With a medium rich consistency, this one aces the darkness of its chocolate. 3) Hot Chocolate at @themadhousecafe_ahmedabad : ₹100 A sincere, no fuss, chocolate ganache swirled in hot milk. Rich in texture but not dense. 4) Hot Chocolate at @thedarkroast : ₹160 The consistency is smooth, that of a full-fat milk but not creamy, whilst being medium dark it does have a froth. 5) Hot Chocolate at @dunkindonuts : ₹130 It is a simple medium-dark chocolate milk, smooth but non-creamy, ultra-mildly foamy. 6) Lindt Hot Chocolate at @mochaahmedabad : ₹225 Lindt Milk Chocolate Milk served with a dollop of whipped cream ensures that its smooth and rich, but very very foamy. Recently revisited all of them in order to confirm if they still taste the same as we last remembered them and boy!
